It has been quite some time since my last post on the blog, due in large part to the gloomy weather and not very interesting light over the festive period, plus a bit of laziness on my part.  However, while making a quick visit to a friend at Clachnaharry today I took a few moments to walk out to the end of the Caledonian Canal and the first set of locks to try and get a few decent shots.  The sky had some good clouds and bits of blue showing through here and there and the Kessock Bridge was lit up by a band of sunshine.  I took this image first, on the tripod, but had to hold it steady due to the strong wind.  My inital thought was that it would work well in black & white but I like the colours in the sky so have chosen to stick with that.  However, I did convert the image to black & white in Silver Efex Pro, using the High Structure (Harsh) preset which produced the image below.  The third image was taken from the very end of the pier, bringing the canal buildings into the frame.  I prefer this composition but the bridge is not so clear.  Also, this one diod not work so well in colour but I do like the black & white, again converted in Silver Efex Pro with the same preset.
